Red Cliff
The Battle in Red Cliff is a legendary battle taking place over one thousand years ago, a panorama epic picturing a triangular relationship among three big powers and a roll of painting showing the magnificent life of the ancient heroes. This period of history finds its replicated moments on NCPA stage in the form of Peking opera, a unique national classic art, thus once again igniting the 1,800-year-old fire smoke.
Compared with the traditional prop setting of “one table and two chairs”, General Director, Zhang Jigang, and Set Design Director, Gao Guangjian dare to make bold innovation in stage designing. In a number of traditionally classic scenes the audience are dazzled by unexpectedly gorgeous and fantastic set design. Such scenes include Borrow Arrows on the Thatched Boat, Burning of Linked Multiple Camps, and Hundreds of Flags Are Flapping in the Easterly Wind.
As China’s unique national art treasure, Peking opera is an art form characterized by its national value and splendid audio-visual effect. NCPA puts on stage Red Cliff, combining Chinese operatic rhythm with the appreciation taste of the modern younger generation, thus opening a new era for the appreciation of Peking opera.
