NCPA's epic folk opera The Long March adopts a realistic approach to reproduce the hardships of the Chinese workers' and Peasants Red army's long march. It praises the Red army's lofty belief of struggle and sacrifice for ideals and faith in order to commemorate the Long March as a great miracle of human history. Over the course of four years, NCPA assembled a top-notch creative team of first-class artists including Yin Qing, Zou Jingzhi, an Minxin, Yang Xiaoyang and Ma Yansong. Composer Yin Qing fully gives play to the length of its melodic writing. Blending bel canto and folk singing, and combining symphonies, choruses arias, and other Chinese and Western musical forms, the composer manifests the epic event. The opera is 6 acts and g scenes long, and features over 30 different characters on stage and a choir of over 120 singers. This is the NCPA's largest original opera.
