NCPA presents its production of Peking Opera You and Me, which exhibits the highest standard of literary and artistic creative work in modern China.The opera is adapted from the story of "Lord Zheng conquering Duan in Yan "in Zuo Zhuan, a history book written in the Spring and Autumn period about 2, 700 years ago. Lord of the State of Zheng sent army to suppress his rebelling brother Gong Shuduan, who was indulged and supported by their mother- Jiang. After the suppression, Lord Zheng swore that he would never see his mother again in his life time because of her conspiracy with the rebellion. At the grand victory banquet, Ying Kaoshu- a minister in his court, successfully made Lord Zheng change his mind through a well designed incident and help the Lord return to the traditional filial piety way of caring the elders With ying's arrangement, Lord Zheng and his mother met in an underground tunnel-a so-called afterlife place. Both put aside earlier differences and forgave each other. The play is characterized by its beautiful theatrical arias and exquisitely designed stage setting. It expresses the traditional Chinese filial piety way of caring the elders and the noble ideal of upholding benevolence and harmony in society.
