Tofu Town
The seven-episode cultural documentary “Tofu Legends” is the second series released as a part of “Chinese Cooking” after” Jiangnan Cooking”. “Tofu Legends” will continue the theme of focusing on a healthy diet style and advocating an economic and innovative life by “Jiangnan Cooking” and tell the lasting theme between humans and food from the perspective of ordinary people through a story told in every episode.
Tofu originates from China and the ancient Chinese compared tofu to "the meat of the fields." The nutrition of the Chinese nation is maintained by bean products to a high degree. Tofu’s rich nutrition, delicious texture and variability in cooking methods have caused tofu to be favored by Chinese people throughout the past thousands of years. This kind of favor has even affected the diet styles in other countries, gradually turning tofu into a world-class delicacy. With low fat, calories and cholesterol, tofu is the greatest contribution to world health made by Chinese people.
In the past thousands of years, Chinese people have cooked tofu in various ways. Roasted tofu broiled on a charcoal fire; stewed tofu which is boiled together with mushrooms in a pot; mouth-watering crispy tofu which is fried in hot oil; tofu which is left frozen in snow... These will all be recorded and presented one by one in “Tofu Legends”. A variety of traditional tofu making methods will also be introduced in the series.
“Tofu Legends” turns its lens towards a group of Chinese people whose lives revolve around tofu. These people work hard. They still use their ancestors’ tofu making methods to make ends meet. With unique understanding, they turn tofu into various delicacies, enabling their fellow the people around them to enjoy tofu. Through tofu, they demonstrate their life perspectives and passion for life.
